HHS Names Scott Nystrom Executive Director for The 2005 White House Conference On Aging

Josefina G. Carbonell, assistant secretary for the Administration on Aging (AoA) announced today that Scott Nystrom, Ph.D., will serve as Executive Director of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA).

The 2005 WHCoA, scheduled to occur from October 23 to 26, 2005, in Washington, DC, will be the first of the 21st century. There have been four previous White House Conferences. The mission of the conference, which is held once every decade, is to report policy recommendations to the President and the Congress and help guide national aging policy.

“We are pleased that Scott will lead the 2005 White House Conference on Aging. We are confident he can build on an already strong record of achievement for the conference,” said Carbonell.

The 2005 WHCoA is listening carefully to input from the American people—both young and old. Already, there are 75 completed informational events and 120 more planned with more than 45,000 individuals participating. It is projected that about 100,000 Americans will have shared their interests in written and spoken statements by the time the conference is scheduled to convene.

“Scott’s appointment ensures that the planning for the 2005 WHCoA will continue to advance. His experience in the public policy arena and his leadership skills will be important to helping the Policy Committee craft the vision for the Conference,” said Dorcas R. Hardy, WHCoA Policy Committee Chairman.
