2005 WHCoA Policy Committee Members to Participate Colorado Solutions Forum

Dorcas R. Hardy, Chairman of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) Policy Committee will be joined by fellow Policy Committee members Melvin Woods and Alejandro Aparicio, M.D., F.A.C.P., to participate in a Solutions Forum sponsored by the Colorado Department of Human Services Division of Aging and Adult Services on June 23, 2005, in Denver, Colorado.

The Policy Committee will hear recommendations from citizens, aging services providers and policy makers from Colorado. This input will assist the Policy Committee in their planning for the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, scheduled to occur December 11 through 14 in Washington, DC. On June 1, the WHCoA announced 12 delegates who will represent the state of Colorado.

The mission of the WHCoA, which is held once a decade, is to report policy recommendations to the President and Congress to help guide national aging policies for the next ten years and beyond. Four previous White House Conferences on Aging have been held since 1961.

The 2005 WHCoA will focus on the interests of current and future seniors, including the 78 million baby boomers who will begin to turn 60 in 2006. Denver, Colorado has the highest percentage (32.8%) of baby boomers of any major U.S city. Colorado is among the healthiest states in the country. The 2005 WHCoA will have a special focus on the benefits of healthy living.
