2005 WHCoA Policy Committee Members to Participate in Silicon Valley Boomer Venture Summit Solutions Forum

Dorcas R. Hardy, Chairman of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) Policy Committee will be joined by fellow Policy Committee members Gail Hunt, Robert Blancato and Tom Gallagher to participate in a Solutions Forum hosted by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University on June 21, 2005 in Santa Clara, California.

The Policy Committee will hear recommendations from a panel of Silicon Valley corporate and venture capital business leaders about baby boomer trends and marketplace potential. This input will assist the Policy Committee in their planning for the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, scheduled to occur December 11 to 14 in Washington, DC.

The mission of the WHCoA, which is held once a decade, is to report policy recommendations to the President and Congress which are designed to help guide national aging policies for the next ten years and beyond. Four previous White House Conferences on Aging have been held beginning in 1961.

The 2005 WHCoA will focus on the interests of current and future seniors, including the 78 million baby boomers who will begin to turn 60 in 2006 the leading edge of which will begin to turn 60 in 2006. One of the topic areas under discussion by the Policy Committee is the role of the marketplace as it relates to the baby boomers. Baby boomers represents more than $2 trillion in annual spending in the U.S. and are driving the demand for innovative products and services as they age.
