2005 WHCoA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO ADDRESS 17TH ANNUAL ARIZONA INDIAN COUNCIL ON AGING CONFERENCE

Scott V. Nystrom, Executive Director of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA), will address the 17TH Annual Arizona Indian Council on Aging Conference “Living Well, Helping Others” in Tucson, Arizona on Wednesday, April 27, 2005.

Dr. Nystrom will discuss the history of the WHCoA and will provide an update on the progress of the 2005 WHCoA. He will also participate as Conference attendees discuss issues of concern to current and future tribal elders in Arizona. Input from the 17th Annual Arizona Indian Council on Aging Conference will assist the WHCoA Policy Committee in planning for the WHCoA, scheduled to occur on October 23 to 26, 2005 in Washington, DC.

The mission of the WHCoA, which is held once a decade, is to report policy recommendations to the President and Congress which are designed to help guide national aging policies for the next ten years and beyond. Four previous White House Conferences on Aging have been held since their inception in 1961. The 2005 WHCoA will focus on the interests of current and future seniors, including the 78 million baby boomers who will begin to turn 60 in 2006.

The Conference is sponsored by the Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. which serves as the advisory council of the Area Agency on Aging, Region VIII of Arizona, and represents the leadership of 19 tribes in Arizona.
