Dorcas R. Hardy, 2005 Whcoa Policy Committee Chairman, To Participate In Senator’s Hatch’s Annual Seniors Conference - Will Convene “Solutions Forum”

Dorcas R. Hardy, Chairman of the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) Policy Committee will participate in Sen. Orrin Hatch’s Annual Seniors Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 1, 2005.

Hardy will join Senator Hatch to kick off the Conference and convene a WHCoA Solutions Forum hosted by the Utah Division of Aging and Adult Services to hear innovative ideas from Utah’s seniors and baby boomers which will assist in the planning for the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, scheduled to occur from October 23 to 26, 2005 in Washington, DC. More than 1,000 are expected to attend.

The mission of the WHCoA, which is held once a decade, is to report policy recommendations to the President and Congress which are designed to help guide national aging policies for the next ten years and beyond. The 2005 WHCoA will be the first of the 21st Century. Four previous White House Conferences on Aging have been held. The 2005 WHCoA will focus on the interests of current and future seniors, including the 78 million baby boomers who will begin to turn 60 in 2006. In 2000, baby boomers made up 23% of Utah’s population. By 2025, Utah's 65+ population is expected to grow by 144%. This will rank Utah #1 in U.S. for percent increase in the 65+ age group.
