Alphonso JacksonIn nominating Alphonso Jackson as the nation’s 13th Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, President George W. Bush called him “one of the most experienced and respected authorities on housing policy in America.”

Prior to being named Secretary, he served for nearly three years as HUD’s Deputy Secretary and managed the day-to-day operations of the $32 billion agency.

During his distinguished career, Secretary Jackson headed up housing agencies in Dallas, Texas (which consistently ranked as one of the best-managed large-city housing agencies in the country during his tenure), Washington, D.C., and St. Louis, Missouri. Immediately preceding his appointment to HUD, Secretary Jackson was President of American Electric Power-TEXAS, a $13 billion utility company in Austin, Texas.
