Carolyn Doppelt GrayCarolyn Doppelt Gray

Carolyn Doppelt Gray is a partner and chair of Barnes & Thornburg's Disability Practice Group. Ms. Gray's practice includes the Americans With Disabilities Act ("ADA"), the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and related construction, safety, and insurance statutes. Ms. Gray advises retailers, sports stadiums and arenas, speedways, lodging, universities, restaurants, insurance, hospitals, and housing enterprises concerning the technical aspects of federal, state, and local disability-related requirements. She has defended numerous civil and administrative actions alleging violations by public accommodations and housing developments and also provides counsel on employment and operational issues.

Ms. Gray was a senior White House appointee at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where she was a principal deputy assistant secretary and commissioner, Administration on Developmental Disabilities. At the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development she served as an advisor for the Fair Housing Act's accessibility process. She was director, Women's Business Enterprise at the U.S. Small Business Administration and executive director, President's Advisory Committee on Women's Business Ownership. Ms. Gray was the first woman in Indiana to be named Person of the Year by the Fort Wayne Jaycees (1975).

Ms. Gray is an editor for the National Disability Law Reporter, a contributing editor for the Disability Compliance Bulletin, and the Corporate Counsel's Guide to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Business Laws, Inc.

Ms. Gray received her B.J. with honors from the University of Missouri and J.D. from Indiana University School of Law, where she was articles editor of the Indiana Law Review. She is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C., the state of Indiana, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh, Fifth, and Eighth Circuits.
